As of 2024, nine states have no state income tax on wages: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire (on wages; taxes investment income), South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington (on wages), and Wyoming. No income tax doesn't mean no taxes — these states often have higher sales or property taxes to compensate. Moving to a no-income-tax state can save high earners significant money, but you must genuinely establish domicile there. Some states are passing laws to eliminate income tax, so this list may grow. New Hampshire is phasing out its investment income tax by 2025.
