The SSA-1099 (officially Form SSA-1099) is sent by the Social Security Administration each January, reporting the total amount of Social Security benefits you received during the previous year. Use it to determine how much of your benefits are taxable — which depends on your total income. If you receive benefits for a deceased spouse, you'll get a Form SSA-1042S instead. You can also view and download your SSA-1099 online through your My Social Security account at SSA.gov. Don't confuse it with a regular Form 1099-R — they report different things.
